CONABI -hanke
Konkreettisia tekoja luonnon monimuotoisuuden hyväksi
Maaseudun Sivistysliitto toteutti vuosina 2024 – 2025 Concrete actions for biodiversity (CONABI) -hanketta, jonka avulla tehtiin konkreettisia tekoja luonnon monimuotoisuuden hyväksi. Hanke toimii Pohjois-Karjalan biosfäärialueella, eli Ilomantsissa ja Lieksassa sekä Joensuun kaupungin Tuupovaaran alueella. Hanke sai Euroopan Unionin rahoitusta Euroopan vihreän vyöhykkeen yhdistyksen kautta. BESTbelt -rahoitusohjelman kautta edistetään luonnon monimuotoisuustekoja sekä vihreän vyöhykkeen tunnettuutta.
CONABI-hankkeen avulla lisättiin alueen toimijoiden tietoisuutta, kiinnostusta ja osaamista omasta lähiympäristöstä huolehtimiseen. Hankkeessa aktivoitiin ja ohjattiin paikallisia ihmisiä, kyliä, yrityksiä ja muita toimijoita tekemään konkreettisia tekoja lajien, elinympäristöjen ja kulttuuriympäristöjen suojelemiseksi sekä hyödyntämään saatua osaamista yhteisönsä kehittämisessä. Conabi -hanketta toteutettiin tiiviissä yhteistyössä Pohjois-Karjalan biosfäärialueen kanssa.
Hankkeessa järjestetiin työpajoja, jotka tarjosivat osaamista ja tietotaitoa eri aiheista ja sisälsivät aina konkreettisia toimia luonnon monimuotoisuuden säilyttämiseksi tai parantamiseksi. Hanke järjesti yhteensä 15 yksi- tai kaksipäiväistä työpajaa yhdessä alueen kylien ja yhteisöjen kanssa. Työpajojen aiheet liittyivät maisemien raivaukseen ja biohiilen valmistukseen, vieraslajien torjuntaan, elinympäristöjen luomiseen linnuille ja hyönteisille, metsälehmuksen taimien istuttamiseen ja perinteisten puu- ja kiviaitojen rakentamiseen.
Hankkeen yhtenä tuloksena syntyi konkreettisia ympäristötekoja esittelevien kohteiden verkosto, joka on rakennettu verkkosivustoksi ja josta löytyvät kartalle laitettuna kaikki hankkeessa tehdyt toimenpiteet. Sivuston kautta hankkeen tuloksiin on helppo tutustua ja niihin pääsee palaamaan myös hankkeen päättymisen jälkeen. Kohteiden verkostoa hyödynnetään jatkossa ympäristökasvatuksessa ja toimenpiteiden vaikutusten seurannassa.

Concrete actions for biodiversity (CONABI)
In 2024–2025, the Association for Rural Culture and Education carried out the Concrete actions for biodiversity (CONABI) project, which helped to take concrete actions for biodiversity. The project operates in the North Karelia Biosphere Reserve, i.e. in Ilomantsi and Lieksa, as well as in the Tuupovaara area of the City of Joensuu. The project was funded by the European Green Belt Association, whose BESTbelt funding programme promotes biodiversity actions and awareness of the European Green Belt.
The CONABI project increased the awareness, interest and competence of the actors in the area in taking care of their own local environment. The project activated and guided local people, villages, companies and other actors to take concrete actions to protect species, habitats and cultural environments and to utilise the expertise gained in the development of their communities. The Conabi project was implemented in close cooperation with the North Karelia Biosphere Reserve.
The project organised workshops that provided expertise and know-how on various topics and always included concrete actions to preserve or improve biodiversity. The project organised a total of 15 one- or two-day workshops together with the villages and communities in the area. The topics of the workshops were related to clearing landscapes and making biochar, combating invasive species, creating habitats for birds and insects, planting linden seedlings and building traditional wooden and stone fences.
One of the results of the project was a network of sites presenting concrete environmental actions, which has been built as a website and where all the measures taken in the project can be found on a map. Through the website, it is easy to get acquainted with the results of the project and it is possible to return to them even after the end of the project. In the future, the network of sites will be utilised in environmental education and in monitoring the effects of the measures.
