Tree God Park in Pinsiö

Tree God Park is based on wood sculptures made according to the ancient Finnish sculpture tradition. In the past, sculptures of wooden gods were used around houses as a warning to passers-by and as a welcome to those on the right track. Wishes were made to the wood gods for hunting and fishing luck and they were also used for various magical deliveries.

The friends who founded the park, Kari Manninen, Jari Antila and Pasi Ahokas, were looking for a model to make sculptures of traditional Finnish wooden gods, but none could be found. A newspaper article led them to the Finnish forests in Sweden, from which they went to Pinsiö to take an example. The artists Jari Antila, Kari Manninen and a few other sculptors are responsible for the realization of the park and the creation of the sculptures. Most of the creators are self-taught carvers.
