Leena Nio

Tuusula (1963)

Leena Nio is a self-taught artist whose passion for mosaics was ignited years ago in a Parisian art shop, a fleeting moment of discovering her own means of expression. Mosaic art captivated her entirely.

Leena Nio describes immersing herself in her work so deeply that time seems to disappear. The limitless combinations of colours and shapes in mosaics offer her the freedom to create ever-new visual worlds. Flowers are a particular source of inspiration for Nio, but animals and everyday themes also come to life in her work. She also cites Australian Aboriginal art as an important influence, noting how its vibrant colors and rhythmic patterns are particularly inspiring to her.

After returning to Finland in 2014, Leena Nio created her own enchanting art garden, Kimara, at her childhood home in Jokela. There, an almost 500-metre-long art path showcases her abundant and distinctive mosaic creations.
