Chainsaw sculpture park in Lumijoki

An impressive open-air gallery has been risen along the Lumijoki River, in a park area owned by the municipality of Lumijoki, displaying 41 chainsaw sculptures by Heikki Laurila. The works present Finnish history and nature.

The park conveys an important message from its sculptor Heikki Laurila. It tells about the importance of biodiversity, biodiversity loss, the carbon cycle, the importance of the circular economy, the limited natural resources of the earth and the importance of renewable forms of energy in the future. It also signals that people should learn to live with less and get by on a smaller standard of living.

The construction of the sculpture park is proof of the sense of community in Lumijoki. A large number of volunteers have been involved in the implementation, and large stones needed for construction have been givne as donations, among other things. The statues of the Unknown Soldier and the Unknown Lotta have been protected by a canopy covered with shingles made by volunteers.

You can go to the park for a picnic, admire chainsaw art, a date or just to calm down and forget about everyday worries.

The chainsaw sculpture park is part of Oulu’s year as the European Capital of Culture 2026.
