The Seating stone tells the story of the village

Satu Pietilä

The Seating stone is an erratic boulder shaped like a chair that was transported to its current location by the Ice Age. You are invited to sit down on one of the log stools carved by Aimo Laitinen and listen to stories about this place.

The Seating stone is a historical resting place for Sanginjoki villagers, a chair shaped by nature that has offered a moment of relaxation for generations of people. This audio work (link to be added) invites you to stop and listen to stories and memories about the stone.

The audio work features Timo Päätalo reading a newspaper story written by his brother, Matias Päätalo, which describes the forming of the Seating stone and its significance to the village. We also hear former villagers share their memories.

When you walk along the Sanginkontu paths, why not stop and listen to the work at the Seating stone. Sit on one of the log stools placed around it and allow yourself to be immersed in the atmosphere of this unique site.
