One of the events will take place in Viikki, Helsinki on Friday Nov 7th at 1.30pm – 5 pm. The seminar introduces us to the design and management of edible forest gardens, that integrate principles of ecology and ecosystems into growing food and creating livelihoods. The seminar also introduces us to passive solar greenhouse design, featuring Jerome’s own greenhouses representing different climatic zones from temperate to Mediterranean and even sub-tropical.

Jerome Osentowski is the founder and director of Central Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute (CRMPI) in Basalt, Colorado. CRMPI is one of the longest standing permaculture demonstration sites in the United States that has operated over three decades and features several near-net-zero-greenhouses surrounded by and also containing edible forest garden ecysystems, thriving in the harsh Rocky Mountain conditions. He is also the author of a book The Forest Garden Greenhouse, published in 2015.

CRMPI is established in the clayey slopes of the Rocky Mountains and serves as a leading example of how to integrate natural processes, biological resources and cycles of nature into productive edible ecosystems. The seminar in Viikki introduces us to the principles of ecosystemic design and passive solar greenhouse techniques, as well as the practical steps of establishing and maintaining these systems and how those have been implemented at CRMPI.

The seminar is organised by Maaseudun Sivistysliitto/ Ryytimaa- resurssiviisas yhteisöviljely paikallisyhteisöjen turvana – project in cooperation with Taimet ry.
